Herman Cain, the Epilogue

Back in February ( in the old blog), I wrote about why Herman Cain running for President was a bad thing, pointing up the similarity to Bill Lucas running for governor of Michigan.

Blog Post from February 2011

From all indications, Herman Cain is a pleasant, decent, capable man – but that’s not good enough to be President.

I put a fair amount of the blame for this on Neal Boortz – Neal is obsessed with his Fair Tax plan and he pushed Cain into doing this – and was somewhat miffed when Cain didn’t go with Boortz’s fantasy tax reform plan, but instead dreamed up the 9-9-9 plan and suggested it was just the first step toward a flat tax.

I don’t watch TV, from the things I heard where Cain started to get in trouble, the media was going out of their way to not embarrass him, knowing that he is way over his head (and because he is black) – never having run successfully for office or worked in government.

The “long pause” question for example…  the reporter asked a question as a basic journalistic trap trying to draw Cain into direct conflict with President Obama…. “Do you disgree with how President Obama handled Libya”….

As he sort of explained after the fact, he was concerned that people would then “spin” his answer based on them stated Obama’s position and then saying Cain didn’t agree with it.      The right way to respond would be something like

“Rather than trying to explain why President Obama did what he did, here is my opinion about Libya….  We should have [ fill in the blank ], ducking a yes/no answer that he could be bludgeoned with later.

That’s why real campaigns have “handlers” and you spend weeks in private “pretend” interviews so that you don’t fall into basic traps and know how to use your answer to advance your message, not give you enemy ammunition.

The reason I’ve said epilogue is the report today that Cain sent money to this alleged female friend to help her out in the past.   Even if it was just totally innocent, his wife didn’t know about her or the money.    He now has a major personal distraction – hiding things from your spouse is not healthy.

Cain well and truly is moribund now as a candidate, and some of it indeed may be of his own conjuring. Whatever the poisoners’ ingredients, the assassination is fait accompli. The bilious partisan Fourth Estate and the slander-mongering left did their level best to destroy this black man who dared not only to stray from the plantation, but also to declare himself free of it. Uppity to the end, that “niggah” HAD to be slain. Blacks seeing his treatment, watching the suspicious cadence in the march of accusers and slanderers, seeing their agendas, smelling the rot in it all, should first be outraged, then introspective … then sad.
