Mike Huckabee worked for TV Evangelist James Robison in his 20s – I remember watching Robison in my youth. Wondering if has still around, I searched out for a web site, and found the web site is featuring a series of programs this week with Glenn Beck

Glenn mentions going to Greece and his visit to Rome a week and a half ago – which was several months ago.
I remember James Robison, very well. He happened to preach at this church in Universal City, TX a year or so after the first gulf war, that I happened to visit this particular day. He waxed valiantly on how he was invited to say a couple of words in the presence of some Saudi and American dignitaries at Prince Sultan Air Base. He finished his sermon at PSAB with the usual altar call, and he related how many Saudis came “to the Lord”. Great story, right?
The truth is quite different. Yes, Robison was visiting the Air Base, but he was not allowed, nor invited to this particular meeting. The Saudis would have exploded. I remember that even Bibles were not allowed, except in your personal gear and in your quarters only. Saturday and Sunday religious services were limited and never in the presence of Saudis. A good friend of mine was the Intel Officer-in-Charge.
A few weeks later I visited another church where Robison was to preach. I confronted him with the truth and he backpedaled so fast, denying having said what he had said at Universal City, TX.
To me Robison is no more than Bakker, Swaggart, Schuler and many others false evangelists who project themselves as the anointed ones in order to put their hands in your pockets. No better than politicians who will say whatever is expedient to keep power and control the masses.
His “gimmick” is at the appropriate moment, he stares right into the TV camera with an intense stare through his glasses – which apparently makes people open their purses and write big checks.
