I think this is a first, other than the occasional high school sports…
KIRO-FM in Seattle is streaming a soccer (aka football to countries not part of the British Empire) match of the Seattle Sounders, a team of National League Soccer… whether it is supposed to on the stream, I don’t know. The crowd noise is very intense as if it is a “big deal” – but then again we’re talking about Seattle.
So one more sport to worry about for all of those of you who love sports!
Several years ago I moved to Pittsburgh, PA from Austin, TX. Coming from a city were sports are virtually unknown and moving to a city described as “a beer-drinking city with a sports problem” has been a rude awakening for me. Ask any of my neighbors the name of their senators or congressmen and it’s like pulling teeth. On the other hand, ask them about Lemieux, Clemente, or Bradshaw, and they will recite stats and spend the next few hours extolling the values or these “very-worthy” gentlemen. In the last gathering around a campfire, I attempted to inject some political thoughts into our conversation and they looked at me as if I was from Planet Ork. In addition to sports, they will spend hours taking about the Kardashians, Lohan, American Idol, and other assorted pop-culture items. Help please, I am in hillbilly hell and can’t get out.
You’re just saying that because you don’t have a terrible towel.
