The Cumulus Migration has begun

Back in December 2011, Cumulus Media and Clear Channel announced that the streams for the 500 or so Cumulus radio stations would be moving to iHeartRadio,  When this happens, iHeartRadio will be close to the “de facto” radio streaming platform for all of radio – having critical mass with approximately a combined 1500 stations.  Several other radio operators have already signed on.

This blurb from the RAIN conference reports that Cumulus first needs to migrate to the Triton Digital platform – ironically owned by Oak Tree Capital, which also controls Townsquare Media, which has announced no plans (yet) to join iHeartRadio.   Townsquare has quietly been buying up failed radio operators around the country, mostly from bankruptcy auctions or “loan restructuring” by banks.

I’ve started to find Cumulus stattions moving to the new web site platform, a process that appears to be one station at a time and will occur over several weeks.

Let the fun begin!

The “hook” for Cumulus is they plan to offer a “groupon” like local bargain of the day offer via iHeartradio  and expect big things from the partnership.

Well that’s total BS. I heart radio is crap. It requires latest flash and post a bunch of “crap” that is not needed. I kinda avoided the “crap-heart-radio” flash. well I do avoid them. The only thing cumulus stations had going for them was you could load the stream fast and you could use win-player.(not silverlight)

Liquid compass, stream the world are not bad. The player WAAM Ann Arbor uses is a great player.
too much fluff out there. Get you some food, people.

As it turns out, “Filter by Player type” has been broken for a long time and nobody brought it to my attention confirming that nobody cares 🙂

The Citadel stations (including the former ABC stations) have not yet changed.

I am glad citadel has not changed(WJCW) Johnson city TN.

I guess they will be going to “I heart radio sux” too ?

Who is the News Distribution Network (aka NDN) that is the front end on all the cumulus players?

    News Distribution Network
    3280 Peachtree Rd
    Suite 2000
    Atlanta, Georgia 30305
    United States

The Securities and Exchange Act of 1934 (as amended) prohibits companies from selling stock to the public unless the company has only a small number of share holders. NDN filed an exemption request with the SEC that lists the people that run the company:

Curiously, Cumulus Radio is located at 3280 Peachtree Road, Suite 2300, three floors above NDN. I’m sure that is just a coincidence.

Here are bios of all the principals:

Here is what Greg Peters thinks is the most important thing in his bio:

“Mr. Peters was appointed by President George W. Bush to the National Infrastructure Advisory Council (NIAC), a White House Committee, in 2004. The NIAC advises the President on national security issues related to cyber security and protection of our national infrastructure. The NIAC works closely with the Department of Homeland Security and White House security and intelligence advisors. Mr. Peters’ appointment continues under President Barack Obama, as he serves at the discretion of the sitting President.”

Now that gives me a warm fuzzy feeling!
