Savage has made his decision

Michael Savage has an update on his web site.

He says he has made his decision and may be back on the air in two weeks.

My guesses (in order)
– he and/or his family is buying TRN
– he signs a deal with Sirius/XM
– he is going back to MSNBC
– Salem Radio is hiring him

Here’s his 45 minute internet broadcast if anyone is interested. Free.

      Thanks

I had read he didn’t appear on his own uStream podcast. My guess was he wasn’t doing the show from his home in Marin County – the production crew is, but he probably wasn’t there for security reasons.

He mentioned wanting to do the show at a different time – being the [70 year old] punk rock alternative to the Mantovani music. To explain that reference, Mantovani (who died in 1980) had a band that specialized in elevator music – soft music with no lyrics and nothing anyone would think is offensive. Some talk show host in my past (I think it was Mark Scott in the 1980s on WXYT-AM in Detroit) would threaten his callers that if they didn’t call in, he would start playing Mantovani music.

That definitely does not describe Glenn Beck. My guess is it is a reference to Rush, who despite his reputation generally stays away from most controversial issues. The last four years have been “we hate Obama” in 1000 different ways.

He could be talking about Hannity I suppose, but since he allowed Talkstream to convince him he has more Internet listeners than Rush, he seemed very happy. The thing you need to understand about Internet streaming is people mostly listen when a program is not available in their local market, or when they are at work.

The reason for the spike in Savage Internet listeners was Cumulus dropped his show in probably 50 markets and in many cases no other station picked up the show, leaving people stranded and having to stream on the Internet.

Savage’s podcast adventure lasted 45 minutes. There is no sign of it left on the web site. The uStream page has no content. There were a little less than 1,000 followers.

    $5 x 1000 x 12 is $60k a year – you’re talking serious money now.

  3. Savage is quoted in the San Francisco Chronicle today as saying he was itching to get back on the air before the presidential debates were over.

I had to laugh because more often than not when I tuned him in over the last while, he’d go on and on about how sick he was of the election and the candidates, and proceeded to talk about what he had for dinner the night before.

Michael Savage relies heavily on his audience not remembering what he said 10 minutes ago. He is an expert on mental disorders, after all.

I find it interesting that when the paper called him on his cell phone, Mr Borders, Language & Culture was found eating at an Indian buffet.

You have very precisely summed-up my opinion.

Speaking of San Francisco cuisine, I had a fabulous dinner there in January 2008. It cost me less than $10, with tax and tip. Pay me the amount that Savage earned in 1 day last month, and I will divulge the location of the restaurant, plus clue everyone into what will happen, more than likely, over the next 24 months, or in the alternative I will bad-mouth the 2 dominant political parties in America until you become ill from listening to me.
