Laura Ingraham has signed with her new syndicator – you’ve never heard of them. The only show they syndicate is Loveline with Dr Drew, which is carried only on a few stations. She is clearly not hoping to return to a major presence on terrestrial radio – this might be a back door way onto SiriusXM or Internet streaming.
Typically, when a host joins a syndicator, they visit with existing shows do do some cross promotion. Since Laura is not married and a good Christian, I guess Dr Drew’s first question needs to be “are you a virgin?”
After Laura’s appearance on Fox’s O’Reilly Factor tonight, Bill mentioned Laura’s new syndicator, which is headed by Westwood One founder Norm Pattiz, saying she’d be ‘in good hands.” Pattiz’ new company also syndicates O’Reilly’s daily radio commentaries.
Well, that makes sense! If he syndicates O’Reilly, he must be good!
Why did Bill leave long form radio again and who was his syndicator?
Tom Taylor adds in more detail – Laura Ingraham’s focus will be on digital media, not radio and probably not political talk. It sounds like the intent is to go down the path set by Adam Carolla. Adam had been in the Free FM talk format run on CBS when Mel Karmazin and Howard Stern were there. He was originally known as being a comic, but now has a very successful free subscription podcast.
Over the years, radio has continued to add to the commercial load in the programs – it has to be very frustrating to go to work and spend half of your three hours waiting for commercials to run and having to cut off an interesting guest or caller because of a hard commercial break.
There is a perfect place for Laura Ingraham on radio, but it is never going to happen – NPR.
I listened to her when she was on regular radio. But my local station has been carrying Jed Babbin lately since she left and I like him more. She could be so abrasive and strident that I used to think “no wonder she’s single”. That is the problem with a lot of the conservative talkers, they don’t come across as calm and mature. I can’t stand Hannity or Quinn & Rose for the same reason.
Since it’s time to unload 🙂 on her, I had similar thoughts that I kept to myself. Why would I take lessons on family values from a woman who did not go down the path of finding a man to marry and have biological children together? It’s wonderful that she was able to buy/adopt children from other women to raise, but “be fruitful and multiply” means the fruit of your tree.
The same applies to Rush Limbaugh. Unless he is hiding more secrets, he’s made a conscious choice to not have children. That’s fine – so did I… But I don’t claim to be a family values Conservative.
That comment about Rush is hitting below the belt, so to speak. I wouldn’t be expecting him to be discussing anything but his philosophical fertility on the radio, or in the Limbaugh Letter, for that matter. He has thousands of “Rush babies”, without the child support.
Laura was getting married and had the date set and the honeymoon all planned. Laura’s fiancé left her when she came down with cancer. I don’t think she ever got over that experience.
I remember that. Waiting until you’re old enough and / or have enough money in the bank often means it never happens. Once she had the diagnosis, that pretty much settles that. Chemo drugs and waiting to be sure it isn’t coming back pretty much ends any chance for biological children.
A local talk station where I live hosted a ‘live local’ appearance of Laura Ingraham about a half dozen years. Laura appeared, signed copies of her book (I don’t even know what the book is called) and then aired her show that day live from my area.
I spoke with the owner of the local station a few days after the event (it had seemed to be successful with a decent crowd attending). I was surprised when he told me how difficult she was to work with. She was a total prima donna and made all sorts of demands of the station in order to do the appearance. He said she made VERY specific demands for food and drinks she wanted during her stay and required her hotel room to be ‘just so’ as well. He was required to buy a huge supply of her books (non-returnable — he said it would take about 50 years to sell them all at the rate they were moving). Lastly, she also wanted a large amount of $$ and all of it up front. He said he would never work with her again.
That’s Laura. It’s always about her.
And she can’t write very well either. I had a silly run in with her over a few emails I wrote about what a scumbag John Edwards was. We both were undergoing radiation treatment at the time and exchanged pleasentries before this. Elisabeth Edwards apparently was now befriended by Laura-much to my astonishment. Anyways after 1 such email,
She about ripped my head off (on air -as an unnamed emailer and even went so far as to doubt my illness.)
I don’t need this crap from anyone-especially a b–ch like her. Never listened since. I hope she fails.
I didn’t realize I’d start a thread. My only point was that I’d hate to come home everynight to someone who seems to be looking for a fight all the time. Anyhow, as I said, my local station picked up Jed Babbin from TRN and he is much more pleasant to listen to.
Jed is on basically doing Laura’s old show. If he has been named as a permanent replacement, that would be interesting news.
KOKC-AM in Oklahoma City announced that Laura Ingraham will be back January 2nd. That’s going to be a busy day. She tweeted the same information.
