WSJ Daily Wrap says “Adios”

Tom Taylor reports that affiliates of the WSJ Daily Wrap show have been told the show stops production in 90 days. Tom Taylor is blaming this on Rush Limbaugh now that George W Bush has been gone for four years. The 4.9% drop in revenue in radio in 4th quarter was Rush Limbaugh’s fault, don’t you know? It had nothing to do with Cumulus and Clear Channel or the 90% of radio stations that play music. Rush did it – just ask competitor Dial Global / Westwood One as they prepare for their next meeting with their bankers comes up in a few days.

I wonder how many stations and networks have a policy refusing to run ads for gun stores… I hear sales are way up. I can think of only one station (in Texas) where I regularly hear ads for a gun shop… Tell me again why radio can’t run ads for tobacco products and booze?

Well that’s to bad WSJ is leaving, I was just starting to like Micheal Castner. Maybe they were a little too left leaning for AM radio.

That was kind of surprising news. The show was slowly building a pretty solid affiliate list, and with Michael Savage moving out of the 6-9 PM (ET) position, it opened the door, especially for stations wanting less controversial programming.

My sense is the show ending has more to do with the condition of “Wall Street”, with democratic capitalism being replaced by global private equity firms. At the time of Occupy Wall Street, I pointed out they were a few years too late. Wall Street has moved to Dubai and London and Singapore. The Wall Street in New York is little more than a TV set.

I heard ads recently for a gun show and Samuel Adams lemony beer. I think gun shows should be allowed to sell hard liquor in bulk.
