Lee Morgan was the host of the Morning Show on KFSO-AM along with Melanie Morgan and Officer Vic doing traffic. That team was a casualty of the purchase of ABC Radio by Citadel – during that time, it became public that the “local radio” host had been doing the San Francisco morning show from his home in Arizona, leaving behind California’s income tax and gun laws. He had left California a few years earlier, something that was not disclosed to their listeners.
Since leaving radio, Lee Rogers has joined the legions of former radio people doing a podcast – his was named Live Free or Die. Lee just had a 13 hour heart surgery and has died.
Ed Koch also just died – Ed liked playing the role of radio host, appearing first as a guest on local radio and more recently doing a show called The Voice if Reason on Bloomberg’s WBBR-AM.
In October 1975, the second show of Saturday Night Live, the Jim Henson puppets made fun of Mayor Koch’s statement that New York City was on the Brink of Default. At the time, I had a pretty clear impression that The Mighty Favog in the Land of Gorch was a parody of Ed Koch.

If I was a dedicated listener to the KSFO show or any other, then I learnt something like that, it makes me feel as they were dishonest.
Like when I bought my first Michael Savage book thinking he needed the money, I mean he made it sound like it and I wanted to help support him, not because i really even cared for the book..
Then Art I read one of your blog posts and I find out his name is Weinger, he invented rockstar engery drink, who promotes very heavy death metal music MAYHEM FESTIVAL (among other shady stuff), WHILE he criticized Harvyy Weignstein, Tarantino, and hollywood for the violent movies.. While not directly connected i’m sure has some type of a say.. He’s a very rich multimillionair.. Not that he made his money dishonestly just made me feel *had*. I still love listening to his show and it is currently my favorite. I look at it more as entertainment though…

However, it seems like he and “Mrs S” see each other only rarely. A few years ago, he talked a lot about how he enjoyed going to a Tough man contest with his son. He left out the detail that his son runs rockstar and rockstar was the organizer. Since Savage got people mad at him, they’ve tried to keep the connection quiet. If you read the details and know Savage’s name you’ll quickly realize the person who created the rockstar formula is the same person who had been selling books on herbal medicines before he accidentally wound up doing radio.
For how many years did WBZ morning news legend Gary LaPierre do his Boston morning drive newser from sunny Florida. Do they even have wind chill down there. Jeez, Louise…….
I saw a little rumor that Don Wade and Roma also were doing their show from Florida and not Chicago. 20 years ago when I listened to them riding the CTA every morning, they would talk about their adventures riding the empty 146 Lake Shore Express bus in the morning at 3AM, the begging scams downtown, stupid things someone said on the local news casts. More recently they mostly were focused on national things or things you would read on the Drudge Report
Once upon a time, they did a come and meet us on State Street thing – that was right on my way walking to work. I saw a woman standing there with no “My name is Roma” name tag and she wasn’t talking to anyone, so I didn’t hear her voice – this was before the Internet, so I had no idea what she looked like. So after an awkward glance or two, I went on to work. Yet another missed opportunity.
