Ian does a morning show with his wife in Minnesota – he used to do the Saturday night / Sunday morning Coast to Coast. He’s been doing one show a month for about the last two years doing the Sunday evening / Monday morning Coast to Coast. The explanation for cutting back his C2C hours was he was diagnosed with tinnitus.
Last night was his final show.
I’ve heard from an intern working Deborah Hersman for that the last time Mr. Punnett was abducted by a “chupacabra”, it was really John Titor dressed in a chupacabra costume and John let out such a screech that even caused Marty DiBergi to lose his hearing through the television.
If the NTSB confirms it, you can take it to the bank!
It was his time to go. His show quality has been in decline for a few years and John Wells is an excellent host that deserves more time. George Noory I hope is the next to go because he has lost his edge, lacks the objective interview skills to keep his guests honest, let’s them ramble on for to long. agrees to much until I had enough and need to change the channel.
No one ever ran bull past Art Bell without him calling them on it. To the cheers of his audience.
I’m not sure I agree with that. I spent a lot of time in the #art_bell chat room on IRC. Art said a number of times it wasn’t his job to expose when his guests were making things up – he believed his audience was smart enough to tell when a guest was just making up a story.
I agree with you, Art Stone. Art Bell’s talent was being able to interview anyone and keep a straight face.
My favorite time, I had mentioned before on this blog. It was a Halloween many years ago and Art had dedicated one phone line for living listeners, and one phone line for dead listeners. Almost all of his callers were dead people that night, including people like Ben Franklin, Herman Goebells, and Queen Victoria.
If you didn’t recognize that the voice was Art’s, you’d think you were listening to a recording from CNN’s Larry King show earlier that evening…. both had the living talking to the dead, but just from opposite ends of the phone line. ๐
That was mean.
Good job.
I tend to agree with the notion that the guests are allowed to ramble on, the host (all of them) tend to sound a lot like cheerleaders and they ask just the ‘right’ questions so the guest can ‘hit the slow pitch’ question over the fence. Keep in mind that a guest is invited to bring a large audience so C2C can sell ad time. I rarely listen live any longer, sometimes a guest is on and I will catch the program on youtube later, sometimes much later.
I never sell ad time… oh wait… nevermind. ๐
I thought Noory was eating or reading the paper during his interviews. He take a second to recognize that the guest had finished and go on to the next prepared question almost as an after thought. I cancelled my subscription after the 23rd Kennedy Assassination show or the 24th hijacker jumping out of the plane with a wad of cash show. Whats the point of buying podcast capability for dull repetition.
You can get some inexpensive and maybe free apps for your PC to record those streaming shows.. then you can play them at your leisure. radiosure.com is a good free one but it doesn’t offer the option to schedule recordings or do anything fancy.
Noory just got a very long contract extension from Clear Channel – he says he expects to still be doing coast to coast when men land on Mars (and prove Richard Hoagland was right!)
If the PR is right, his ratings are improving – that sounds right to me. There are a lot of seniors now afraid to fall asleep because they’ll dream about Trayvon Martin slitting their throat.
The Redeye Trucking guys are not catching on beyond their original niche audience of English speaking overnight truckers – probably a shrinking demographic and the folks likely to have Sirius/XM. They have a very active show with content you really have to think about. Overnight radio is about helping people sleep and/or feel like they’re not lonely.
Some good points, Art. I understand that via NAFTA, Mexican truckers are supposed to be allowed access to drive here – similar to the way that Indian programmers are – but that has been delayed in implementation for many years. I don’t know if it was ever implemented but I never see trucks with Mexican license plates.
I can’t imagine being an interstate trucker and not paying 50 ยข per day for SiriusXM.
PS- Did Noory ever figure out how this giant Mount Rushmore type carvings got into the Martian surface? I fell asleep before I heard the answer. ๐
Wayne Herschel uncovered and revealed a very interesting theory, based on facts, about the Martian landscape of Cydonia you are referring to above.
This link below is a short 3:30 minute video to get you started, and well worth your time. I have visited his website many times, downloaded most of his vids and looked at images of places like the Vatican, which when viewed from space appears to be a Key, no kidding. Other places in Eygpt, Stonehenge, the Gobekli Tepe, and other ancient places appear to be ‘linked’ to the stars, as in star maps. Fascinating stuff that others have revealed but Wayne Herschel’s view, based on facts, takes it much further. It would take a few weeks of study to fully comprehend, but the link below is a good place to start. Be warned however, it could absolutely change the way you view the past, the present and of course the future.

John Wells rules on C2C he always has the best topics that real thinking people can relate to as well as the best bumper music.
I have a generally favorable impression of him as well. He seems to not pursue the nonsense topics but also isn’t hard core politics.
Ratings don’t mean much in overnight radio – unless something has changed, Arbitron doesn’t include midnight to 6 AM in the top line numbers. What audience there is may largely be in the process of falling asleep or fading in and out if they are chronic insomniacs. The demographics are probably skewed away from people with big disposable incomes – lots of retired and disabled folks who aren’t going to work at 9 AM.
The web site is not a perfect reflection of ratings but

Like much of AM radio, the audience is heavily skewed male, white, 40+ with no children.
Last night on C2C was Ben Swan – worth a listen

Truth is such a vague concept these days
That leaves justice and the American way?
He does have great bumper music. If you like that style, I recommend this commercial but non-profit station in Phoenix – almost no commercials and a great mix of the kind of bumper songs. The station is mostly new music with a few old songs thrown in, but the style is the style you like… they do have a lot of variety, and it varies a bit by show, so give it a few chances before you decide you don’t like it on only one or two songs:
