Success!

This wasn’t the Comcast outage, but I was able to reinstall Windoze 7 on this machine, and get it to release its death grip on the C: drive, and was able transfer most of the disk space to Linux for the web server’s use.

The linux benchmark says this drive has about 4x the data throughput as the existing 40 GB SATA USB external drive

That’s great, Art, but will it enable us to type 4x as fast?

On a previous threat, which I lost because I was 4x too slow, you had mentioned the relatively new light rail from Camden to Trenton NJ. That light rail project was started AFTER this clip from about 2 decades ago (I won’t go so far as to say it inspired it, but that is my personal belief):

That episode is so old I was actually still watching TV then and remember it.

Back in the 1960s as the Pittsburgh PAT was dismantling the streetcar system, Westinghouse tried to talk the city into building a thing called Skybus. They built a demonstration at South Park, site of the annual Allegheny County Fair.

It was an elevated, driverless, rubber tired vehicle. It was sold as it will be quieter than streetcars, it will be elevated so it doesn’t affect cars below, and it was visually pretty neutral unlike say the Chcago Els

The bit about not having drivers is what probably killed it. The union bus/streetcar drivers were some of the highest paid people in the city, having extorted a city with little downtown parking – with a series of strikes – that ultimately killed public transit and sped up the exodus to cars and suburban shopping centers. People also didn’t like the lack of security of nobody being in charge.
