Safe Passages is the plan rolled out this year to keep Chicago Schoolchildren safe – many schools are being shut down this fall because of the exodus of families from Chicago – this means children may be walking to a school further away, possibly crossing boundaries between rival street gangs.
The Safe Passages program pays people in the Communisty $10 an hour, 5 days a week to stand along the designated routes to protect the children. Recruitment is done via Communisty Organizations, most of which are racially segregated.
Monday, 5 people were shot along one of these safe routes (although that’s a red herring since school hasn’t started yet). This shooting is a bit more alarming than most

The Uptown Baptist Church at 4600 N Sheridan was having its once a week homeless feeding program called “Let Jesus give you a free ham sandwich” [I made that part up]. I have since learned this area is “Conservative Vice Lords” turf. Being this far North and close to the Lake, it’s a bit surprising – but as whites and / or gays have been leaving the North Side, the neighborhoods are becoming more “diverse”. According to the city, three of those shot are men known to belong to South side gangs.
The 50 or so street gangs in Chicago have aligned to two main alliances. I don’t know the specifics and whether they headed into enemy gang territory for a free meal, but it didn’t work out so well.
Blame McDonalds, isn’t that where shooting people who just wanted to get something to eat became poplar?
