If you don’t know who Fred is, you’re probably not interested in this 😉
I closed on the purchase of my condo (just one sign that I may be a socialist!) on Thursday. I followed the Bruce Williams rule of buying the run down property in the good neighborhood and not the expensive house in the deteriorating neighborhood. Â If you find the South Park Shopping Center in Charlotte NC and go South about a mile, you’ll be close – in between Quail Hollow Country Club (not to be confused with the hollow Quayle) and the Carmel Country Club, neither of which would want me as a member and I’m just fine with that
My next door neighbor is a feisty senior from Mississippi and his wife is from Alabama. He’s looking after me and vice versa. He informs me that another recent buyer here was a TEA party organizer from Montana. Sounds like an FBI agent – haha…
My niece and nephew’s wife are both doctors and huge Obama supporters. I’ve been keeping them up to speed on the progress at healthcare.gov. My niece who graduated from Columbia Medical School in NYC gets all of her news by watching the Daily Show with Jon Stewart on her DVR – and I’m sure she is much more informed about current events than her peers. Last Friday even Jon Stewart is coming to realize that Obama’s people are driving us over the cliff while telling us not to worry.
I hold out hope that reality will take hold. One of the standard concepts of a cult is you need the person to make a “buy in” early on so that will become increasingly embarrassed to admit that they got suckered in and gave their time, money, and emotions to a mistaken cause – only to realize the final chapter is a story about an ET who crash landed on earth and took over the souls of people with evil energy.
This means probably in 2 or 3 weeks, things will go down for probably 3 days. I’ll look around for a web site parking service so people don’t think I gave up and quit.
OK, seems you found a place to land, with a good neighbor or 2, and hope it works for you. If the doctors and medical folks are huge supporters of ObamaCare then maybe I have been wrong to trash it as a huge hidden tax system with the hidden cheese at the end of the rainbow.
They’re both under 40. Both are well on the way to becoming anti-Democrats, they just don’t know it yet ;). Wait until April 15th.
Interesting. Every Doctor I have and know is completely anti-Obama and completely aghast at Obamacare. Most will cease serving Medicare patients (ouch! I am close to retirement) and all have voiced the “never again” when referencing voting for an unknown politician. So, who will retire first – me or my Doctors?
What? Me worry? Let Mikey try it, er um I mean let Yellen buy it.
You know the answer to free health care is the same as the answer to free prosperity – print up some healthcare.gov bonds and sell them to Obama’s girl Yellen. She can print whatever money she needs to buy up all the new healthcare.gov bonds once she has no more mortgage backed securities to buy that way.
Just in case a new reader didn’t spot my sarcasm, this short article pretty much sums up my view of Yellen:

I was in a hurry and thought you said Yeltsin
The Feds are running out of bad mortgage backed securities? That WOULD be news. Now, if we could just get rid of those nearly worthless FRN…..
Hey, food for thought: The Feds 100 year charter created on December 23, 1913 expires at 00:00:01 (military time) on 12-24-2013 (Gregorian calendar).
Could the 17T in US debt be paid off by a new world bank with a new, one world currency? A world bank could be created and chartered on the birthday of Zeus, god of the sky and Son of Cronus, which would be December 25, 2013. Of course Zeus shares the birthday with Tammuz, Ra, and someone else, but who cares? It’s all just myth, right?
OK, just having a little fun. The act, or law was amended on February 25, 1927 to extend the act, “To have succession after the approval of this Act until dissolved by Act of Congress or until forfeiture of franchise for violation of law.”[18] (12 U.S.C. ch. 3.

Wonder if the Fed ever shivers in fearful expectation that some enterprising person dares put that “forfeiture of franchise for violation of law” to the test?
I’m don’t know your niece’s age, but my extended exposure in work environments around the age 18-35 crowd demonstrated to me that the ‘news junkies’ amongst that age group watch Colbert and Jon Stewart. Those “well informed” viewers were a small minority, as most of the 18-30 year old’s are extremely ignorant of both history and current events. Nearly 100% get the bulk of their “news” from social media.
They all know who Travon, Snooki, and Miley are though.
I don’t mind people that choose to avoid being informed, but i do mind that the government encourages them to vote…
I have long advocated blank ballots – if you can’t spell your candidate’s name, you can not vote for your candidate.
Art, its a good thing you didn’t move to Gastonia. Their isn’t much there anymore, Pawn shops and boarded up buildings. Gaston low cost spay/Neuter clinic, and closed machine shop right out of the 60’s. The Obo recession has hit that area hard.
I did see the Sun Drop bottling facility. Saw a tag on the side of a building with a ’13’ in it. I drove the google car straight through on 74. Sad. When I was a kid there was always advertisements on WBT for places & businesses in Gastonia.
I bet Gastonia was a manufacturing powerhouse back in the day.

I drove up to Statesville early on – my summary is it looks “tired”. The old K-mart is now a discount store that sells tobacco. The condo development I looked at 5 years ago along I-77 still hasn’t finished selling their units. The old houses are not empty, but have a lot of deferred maintenance. The South Side is rumored to be unsafe even during the day. Economic activity seemed subdued. Grocery stores have been replaced with lower tier replacements.
Another thing that has dealt a blow to small rural towns is high gas prices along with increased in unemployment after 2008. Before then many people who were retired, or soon would be, did move into NC. or bought a parcel of land. After 2008 and the housing crash the folks who 1st needed to sell their house before moving South could not find buyers.
