The AP is carrying a story that most of the people actually signing up for Obamacare are selecting the cheapest Bronze policy – perhaps not realizing what a $6,000 annual deductible means – which ultimately will stick hospitals with huge stacks of unpaid bills.
I’m shocked! Shocked that the AP is starting to tell the truth.
So my ACA compliant Blue Cross/Shield policy with its $5,500 deductible was confirmed on December 5th with an indication I would receive my membership kit and ID card in two weeks. That would have been the 19th. Today is the 23rd, the final day to get coverage starting 1/1/2014.
Because I’m a glutton for punishment, I called BCBS of North Carolina. You will be shocked to learn that the estimated hold time is “more than an hour”. The system offered a call back if I gave them a phone number. I’m sitting on the edge of my seat.
While waiting, I’m now on hold with the ICHIP folks who may want to dispute the termination date of my Illinois HIPAA continuation coverage.
Remember the Allstate “you’re in good hands – oops!” parody on Saturday Night Live? The skids have been well lubricated for Daddy Government to just kill the insurance business and/or the provision of medical services. That is the end game.
I read earlier today that Aetna and United Healthcare decided in July to stop writing individual coverage in California (and probably elsewhere). Kaiser Permanente and Blue Cross already control 70% of California.
ICHIP is of the opinion that my coverage ended the moment I crossed the Indiana state line – despite not yet being eligible to be North Carolina resident since I wasn’t here yet.
My total medical expenses with ICHIP for the 11 months of coverage were $0.00 – the premiums around $6,500.
So at the moment, for the first time since 1986 – I am officially uninsured.
Washington Times reports the White House has extended for 1 day the deadline to sign up and get 1/1/2014 coverage.
Note this is not the end of the open enrollment period or the date by which you have to enroll to avoid the penaltax. The only effect of this is to put even more pressure on the insurance companies trying to process 13 million Americans through a system that signs up maybe 100,000 a day.
Your time is up. Obamacare failed. And the real part hasn’t even started yet
The mainstream media reported that on radio news today? Why did they do it? The radio news reported that it was so popular that so many people were trying to sign up today that not all of them could in one day! wow. who woulda thunk that obamacare was so popular?!?
absolutely no mention that there could be anything wrong with the web site, the problem was with the people themselves.
Paging Mr McAfee
A little after 4 o’clock the BCBS callback system called me back – after about two sentences into my description, he put me on hold and I heard silence for several minutes and then went back into the queue waiting for the next available customer service professional will serve me shortly.
Belize is looking more and more attractive.
My brother in-law did some missionary work in Belize last year. He said it was nice. The weather is nice, and the women were super-nice. I’m going next time to check it out, ,,,”trade it all in for a Pirate flag and Island girl”.

I liked my plan but my company cancelled it.
I’m still on hold – I decided to login to my BCBSNC Account and see what I can figure out. I printed out my temporary ID card, which means nothing since my alleged coverage that I already paid for (for January 2014) is not yet in effect.
When I got to that page to get started, there was a link for things I can do before the effective date – one is to view my Benefit Booklet. There is no cheeze there – there is no link to actually view what it is that I purchased.
Since the President waved his hand and proclaimed that insurers can keep their existing policies, the ACA compliant policies are a death trap for Blue Cross without the mandate to force young healthy people to pay into the system. I expect BCBSNC to not honor the policy I’ve already paid for. My $511/month policy will likely end up being repriced without that individual mandate for around $900 a month. That’s about the point at which I say “Hell, no” and cross to the dark side.
At 4:50 pm, Jessica came on the line. She took my information and reassured me that I will be covered, however there has been a delay in sending out those membership kits and permanent ID cards. I should actually get it within a week.
Let’s see – today is December 23rd, and the policy takes effect Jan 1st. How many days in December?
BCBSNC is an affiliate of BCBS, not the multistate Anthem BCBS. My guess is about December 30th, BCBSNC will announce it is exiting writing individual policies, and dump us into the national plan.
You have my sympathy. I’m 52 chronologically and probably about late sixties / early seventies physically. Bad Choices. Hard Consequences. Boo-Hoo on me. There is no cash en casa, even if I could afford the Bronze……. you’re right – ‘lotsa bill collectin’ goin’ out thera’ as Foghorn Leghorn might say. Just hoping God gives me the opportunity to get to the Glock before full vegetable state is achieved.
I’m going to look at putting the business shares in a living trust of some sort, should I have Commie-Care inflicted onto me, it is my sole wish at this point the business survive in tact, in good hands. There is no reason that this enterprise can’t be the cornerstone for generations of building upon.
Good Luck, Merry Christmas.
