    I hate anything named ‘mancave’.
I didn’t know to post this here or in “the other claw drops”.

Saw this on a message board about in the transportation lines across the U.S. There is a whole other class of people out there milling about the country, Hitchhiking and riding the rails.
Interesting Conversation with a Train hopper & Bert the truck driver.
…” Thursday, while driving the semi from OKC to Amarillo, I picked up a young couple scoping for a ride on I-40 at Elk City, OK. They were clearly dressed for hobo travel and had 2 dogs as well.”
“They were heading to WA via CA and we had a enjoyable gab for 2 1/2 hrs. Josh schooled me on train hopping and I recalled how it was mentioned in one of James Wesley Rawles novels as an alternative means of travel.”
“One of the tips the couple passed along was that the car number on each of the rolling stock, that you can use when calling the associated Railroad and they will tell you where that ‘car’ is going and schedule. ”
“Another ‘bene’ from riding 21st century trains is riding in a power unit being used as a pusher at the rear of the train.” Known as ‘DP’ (distributed power unit)
…”usually unlocked, unmanned, water & first-aid supplies, heated. Don’t touch any controls….” I was surprised they said the DP unit was unlocked(parrott).
Bert said …” The sites I researched indicated that many RR workers are helpful, and that it was mostly the “Bull” (security) that would bust you, HARD. There are quite a few sites covering it in detail, including mentioning the FTRA (freight train riders of America), classified as a gang and said to be most prevalent in the Pacific NorthWest.”

Thought I would share that with you guys. Interesting somewhat, since a few of us watch trains too.
