I’m thinking there are people in Montreal who don’t know what a hijab is

Wow – attacked by an escalator! I thought that only happened in departments stores.
I read the article and it is apparent that politics supplants news in Quebec Province. This is the province where it is against the law to print signs in English or any language other the what passes for French in the Province. Not a tourist stop on my bucket list and now that I know they have attack escalators, I will never go near the city.
I am familiar with the French sign law in Quebec. Imagine my shock on my first trip to Paris when I saw big red signs at intersections that say “STOP” in English. They don’t have those in Quebec.
My family had been to Expo ’67 in Montreal when there was at least a pretense of bilingualism. After I moved to Michigan in the 1980s, I decided to drive to Connecticut to visit the streetcar museum there, taking the short way across Ontario. I was totally disoriented when I hit the Quebec border and no sign anywhere was in English.
I was running out of gas and getting somewhat concerned about getting lost. I pulled into a gas station and immediately confronted with “which pump is the unleaded gas?”. One pump said “sans plumb” – I remembered the chemical symbol for lead is Pb (plumb) and sansabelt slacks were pants with no belt, so I correctly concluded which pump to use. Figuring out if the Can$ price measured in liters was good or not, no idea.

“Because of their never-ending dispute with NBC affil WNWO, Buckeye Cablesystem is going all-out to remind viewers that the greatest Olympic action will be on the CBC, in addition to NBC’s cable channels and on-demand. They even released a classy commercial to both toot their horn and rub it in WNWO’s faces:

Having lived in Flint and Troy (Michigan) where the CBC was available on cable, that’s not great advice. Like probably most nations, the coverage is edited to show mostly events where that country’s athletes won an event. So if you want a three hour curling match, enjoy!
Just in case you’re wondering, I’m practicing to be the next Matt Drudge. More and more he wildly mischaracterizes the actual news stories he links to.
