The invasion has begun. The FCC approved around 1000 new 100 watt Low Power FM (LPFM) radio stations and is pushing the paperwork through to get them in the air, much to the dismay if the NAB which believes they own the FM band above 92 MHz

Cairo, WV (population 281) now has an FM radio station playing Oldies. The station license is actually owned by the city, not a non-profit school or church. Cairo is located back in a holler East of Parkersburg back up in the mountains.
The NAB and/or the backers of LPFM insisted these stations be non-commercial – they cannot air advertisements or sponsorship messages that have too specific of a “call to action”.
I wonder if they stream on iHeart radio?
They stream – I listened yesterday for maybe an hour and a half. It had no ads – just probably an computer hooked up on random play with occasional time checks.

I suspect these generally are someone wants to build a cell phone tower and uses public safety to overcome NIMBY opposition
This particular station seems to be a catholic station backed by Immaculate Heart radio.
I’ll bet there are interesting and experimental format for these low power stations. It would be interesting to have a thread where people could suggest interesting and different stations that other SRG users may wish to sample.
We all know that Beck, Rush, Hannity etc are on hundreds of stations, but how about a station that has some unique programming, maybe a weekly talk show with banjo players, or fusion cooking, or something not on 200 stations at the same time?
I’m fond of WOOP-LPFM

It’s in Tennessee and last time I was there was doing a good part of the day live
Another curious one from the original batch is in West Virginia
