The Blaze – #44 busiest web site in US

Glenn mentioned this on a show last week. Here is the data

https://www.quantcast.com/theblaze.com

Interestingly, more people access the web site via mobile devices than PCs. I happen to fall into that group – I use Flipboard, which shows the stories and then I may read the story.

Comparing stats, The Blaze (which actually originates news) is pulling ahead of Drudge Report.

Drudge Report has more page views – but that is bogus, which I directly know as I advertised on the web site and had direct visibility to his web traffic. Drudge has an auto-refresh on his page, which generates a huge quantity of “page views” where no human is watching. A computer (or a window on a computer) just sits there loading the page over and over.

Interesting about the blaze, its annoying to load on a PC. They are loading a lot of cookies and trackers in the background. I guess beck can use the money. Its kinda annoying. I avoid it unless someone says did you see this on the blaze.
They load as much stuff as the Huffington Post, another site to avoid like the plague.

I always assumed the future would look shinier and in some way, better than what I saw at that moment. The Blaze may well be the future of “news” but it isn’t shinier and it isn’t better than what I see now.

True, Briand. Hey have you been listening to Chris Plante ? He was hilarious yesterday (Monday 3/10/2014)
He was hammering Hillary, Kerry, Harry Reid. And some of the calls were funny too.
He’s taken a little bit to like, but he is replacing Beck pretty easy these days.
Especially when he talks like ‘Boris’ of Boris and Natasha cartoon fame about Ukrain and Biden. Moose and Squirrel running white house.
Biden was in burmuda over the past weekend or in the bahama’s somewhere he said.

So here we have the challenge for radio – and for the future value (or not) of this web site. The unique purpose of the web site is a maintained schedule of “what’s on right now?”. It isn’t designed to let you preprogram your Internet radio or audio recorder, although people use it for that.

I don’t think there is any doubt radio syndication is moving away from radio, catering to shows that will be listened to “on demand”. But if people start downloading podcasts and consuming 3 hours of shows in an hour (which is easy to do without commercials, news and 2x playback), why own the radio station and subject yourself to FCC censorship?

    Helllloooooooo Tom Leykis….
