Tunein goes Social

Tunein is pushing a major change to their product

While there is some overlap in what we do, I don’t consider StreamingRadioGuide to be competing with Tunein. Profit or accumulating wealth has never been my objective. Tunein is run by people with radio connections. It has a significant paid staff and funded by venture capital. There will never be a Streaming Radio Guide IPO and I will never be a billionaire (unless hyperinflation kicks in). Tunein’s competitor is Clear Channel’s iHeartRadio.

Early on, I played with trying to make a social connection with individual radio shows with little success. There are a few folks who draw an audience to/from twitter and Facebook, but in general it doesn’t seem to work. Radio is a competitor of those two platforms in the long run.

    Sorry, “Art”
Tunein has been my favorite app since getting an iphone and bluetooth vehicle. Can keep my favorite stuff organized, archives shows, quick access for play in my car or bedside.
The new app looks like alot of new stuff-confusing and not very intuitive. I don’t need the social tie in. Just leave stuff that works alone for cripe sakes!

  2. So far I’ve been able to use the “new” Tunein in much the same way I’ve always used it. The Tunein app for my Android phone has been updated (along with the website, of course) but Tunein is not offering me an update for my old iPod Touch, which probably means the new version is written for iOS 6+.

I haven’t checked Tunein on my Kindle Fire recently but come to think of it, I have no idea how or if any apps get updated on it!

Speaking of apps, streaming audio and Apple. Word is that Apple is buying a headphone company called Beats by Dr Dre. Listen to this video in the attached. I put forward that Apple doesn’t care about the headphones but wants Jimmy Iovine who had worked with John Lennon, Bruce Springsteen, Patti Smith… and with Steve Jobs himself.

this is why apple is buying beats – not the headphones but for jimmy iovine http://9to5mac.com/2014/05/09/listen-to-beats-jimmy-iovine-talk-about-the-future-of-music-for-40-minutes/
