Trump and Bloomberg?

Michael Savage had Donald Trump as a guest last night for most of a half hour. Savage is unambiguously a Trump supporter.

Savage asked Trump what he thought of former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg entering the Presidential race as an Independent. Trump thinks that would be a great idea.

Imagine a Trump+Bloomberg ticket running against Bernie Sanders.

Trump would lose his support because Bloomberg is a Democrat, or he was before he became a Republican and before he became an Independent. If Trump is saying that we have to get government out of our lives, how can he match up with “Nanny Bloomberg”?

Is that really what Trump is saying? He wants tighter enforcement of the border, a stronger military, and wants to tell Apple not to make iPhones in China.

I concur with Fred. Trump in no way is saying we need to get government out of our lives, in fact, he proposes to increase it (and presumably borrow the money from China):

“The analysis estimates that Trump’s tax plan would increase deficits by at least $9.5 trillion over a decade and by another $15 trillion in the second decade.” from http://money.cnn.com/2015/12/22/pf/taxes/donald-trump-tax-plan/

“I want to get government off the backs of business” is the big lie. Big Business exists because of Big Government.

Case in point – US Foods (preparing to launch an IPO) “suffers” under government controls imposed on the wholesale food distribution business in the 1950s. It sets a maximum markup rate for food wholesalers, with a different lower rate for grocery wholesalers (IGA, Piggly Wigley, etc)

This turned the business into a “cost plus” business model. There is no motivation to get better or to choose better suppliers. KKR has interests in both Restaurants and food production. There are only two national food distributors (who tried to become one last year)

The flood of regulations like the Food Safety Act makes it impossible for new entrants to challenge the established players.

Burger King is rolling out hot dogs on February 23rd.

Okay! I want some of that – go Burger King 🙂

    • Fred Stiening says:

The reason for this “new” idea is the people who currently own Burger King also own Oscar Mayer, Kraft and Heinz. Velveeeta Mac and Cheese would be better than French Fries.

If only Velveeta had some sort of real food ingredient 🙂
