Haha – this is as good as listening to Phil Hendrie. Savage just got back to back calls thanking him for taking their call and asking how he is. He threatened to leave the studio and put on a tape (and hung up on both of them)
Glenn Beck and his group do more or less the same thing, mocking callers who do that.
Don’t look a talk show in the eyes and expect them to treat you as an equal. Who do you think you are? Bow down, bitches.
As we all have figured out beforehand the call-screeners could very easily inform the caller NOT to ask how the Host “is doing?” The one thing I have never been able to fully reconcile is this, we all understand that asking the question is a simple courtesy. We all ask others “How are you doing?” and most of the time the answer to the question is “Just fine”, or something similar. However, for some people, including talkshow hosts, they really are not “Doing just fine”.
Savage is a somewhat bitter, old man who is NOT doing just fine! I suppose he is sick and tired of lying to people and does not want to go into the details of his life, which would be far too revealing of his true feelings/life, but since he needs to keep his temper under control, he simply refuses to continue the conversation.
The best callers simply get straight to the reason for their call and things go much better. I have often thought the best way to get on the Host’s good side is to start by saying, “You really sound great today”, or “You made me want to call about (fill-in the blank) when you were talking about….”.
I’m amazed by how cranky some millionaire talk radio hosts can get. They yell at their callers for being repetitive, but they have no problem talking about wearing dead man’s pants for the thousandth time. You want I should tell it? I’ll tell it. We get it…you were poor.
Give him a break, if you was in the position, limited on time, needing to keep the show going, you might also want the calling to keep pace… Everyone asking how are you, then the the reply were talking maybe 15-20 min a show, it adds up… Allen Combs does the same thing, he gets VERY angry when callers call him Mr. or when they ask how he is doing… I heard the show and I think it is more of an act really… For Combs and Savage, who REALLY** knows??
