“Healthy” food

So it starts – my relatives decided to fill up my refrigerator in my absence with so-called healthy food.

The most preposterous thing is a gallon of all natural “100% juice” apple cider. They apparently didn’t read the nutrition label or the ingredients. It’s at least in part from reconstituted powder (probably from China). It has 120 calories per 8 oz, all from sugar (fructose of course) – that’s just slightly less than the 140 per 8 oz of Coca Cola.

But most importantly (as I wrote about before), there is NO vitamin C in it to prevent scurvy. In fact, there is no other nutrients at all. It’s nothing but sugar water with ZERO nutrition. The same is true of most of the “100% fruit juices” helicopter parents are giving their children, then wondering why their kids are fat and sickly and allergic to everything.

Next exhibit – weight watchers “slow roasted” turkey breast with “classic pan gravy”. Orly?

See if this is how you make your pan gravy:
– water (okay so far)
– turkey flavored gravy paste (corn oil, modified corn starch, wheat flour, turkey and turkey broth, whey, turkey fat, salt, yeast extract, sautéed carrots, corn maltodextrin, hydrolyzed corn gluten, flavor (turkey fat, natural flavors (from a beaver’s perineal gland?), spices), soy sauce solids (wheat, soybeans, salt), disodium insinuate and guanylate, dried chicken meat, caramel color, chicken fat, butter, modified food starch, rendered chicken fat, carrot juice concentrate, salt, dextrose, dehydrated chicken broth, natural flavors, autolyzed yeast extract, spices, Xanthan Gum, chicken fat, caramel color, chicken broth, soy lecithin, flavorings)

Wow, just like mom used to make!

That was nice of them, Art. Groceries are expensive these days, despite that the government says there is no inflation.
I read somewhere that if they measured inflation the correct way, like they did in the 1970’s it would be running about 12%. Instead they say they leave out food, energy, transportation, healthcare. Take everything out that you use to live, hell it probably wouldn’t register very high. But we still use all that for living. Jackasses(Government).
At least ammo has come down in cost, just a little, since the ‘ sandy hook flag’.
Enjoy Art, you are lucky to have family that is happy you are moving nearby.
Just like the Andy Griffith show & in NC : )

Yep, that recipe was handed down from generation to generation in my family. Xanthan Gum has always been a little hard to find so we usually stir in a piece of bubble gum and let it go a that! Mmmmm..mmm good!
