Salem Radio’s WNYM-AM in New York City has agreed to let Third Generation radio guy John Gambling on their station from 11 AM-1 PM. The station currently carries syndicated programming, and will replace it with two hours of local programming – originating from his home in Florida. Planned features will be the Shuffleboard Report, Golfing for Idiots and Restaurant Reviews of places that offer Senior discounts.

How does that play? He covers restaurants in Florida for listeners in NYC? Just when I thought I had heard everything.
I suspect MNYM is a bit desperate if they are luring John out of retirement. I wonder if he will have Bloomberg on for a guest spot (I am sure DeBlasio is too busy).
Well, that might have been speculation on my part 😉
If he can work out the non-compete issues, Joan Hamberg will have a feature called the Daily Tide report from the Hamptons.
WICC-AM in Bridgeport actually does regularly report on the tides. In Milford next door, there is an island you can walk to at low tide. On a regular basis, teenagers walk out there to party and lose track of time and end up calling 911 to rescue them. So if they carry their transistor radio with them, they can find out when the tides will be coming in.
From the story, it is more like John pestered them to death.
One of the secrets of radio that eludes beginners is it is much easier to get on the air if YOU show up with sponsors willing to advertise, rather than the station sales people pitching ads for an unknown person with no track record.
Succinct – no rambling.
