Google Fiber on track to come to Charlotte

Google has gotten approval from the City Council, including permission to place Google equipment on city owned land. It’s not an exclusive deal – Google is requiring that any facilities the City makes available also be offered to competitors.

Time/Warner (soon to become Comcast) owns the existing cable franchise. For reasons that aren’t clear, AT&T has been very slow to build our uVerse (which I had in Connecticut)

Google’s Internet offering is a one time $300 fee to get current speed broadband Internet (no monthly fee), $70 a month for Gigabit (which would be 40x my current speed at about the price I pay Time Warner) or $120 a month to add in “TV”

I can tell you for a fact if Google moved its headquarters to Charlotte, the natives would not be throwing rocks at their employees on the way to work.

The south likes “growth”, “employers” and “jobs”.

If Google moved its headquarters to the northeast, the natives would be throwing rocks at their employees on the way to work, but first, lots of lawsuits to prevent them from doing so – the northeast hates any changes and calls them “sprawl”.
